Christine Stewart (1941–2015) was a Canadian politician who served as a Member of Parliament for the riding of Northumberland from 1988 to 2000. A member of the Liberal Party of Canada, she held several important cabinet positions during her tenure in government.
Most notably, Stewart served as Canada's Minister of the Environment from 1997 to 1999 under Prime Minister Jean Chrétien. During her time in office, she was a strong proponent of sustainable development and played a key role in advancing Canada’s commitments under international environmental agreements, including the Kyoto Protocol.
Prior to her role as Environment Minister, she was Minister for International Cooperation, where she focused on global development issues and humanitarian aid. Her work reflected a deep commitment to both environmental stewardship and social justice.
